Day 1 :: Photo & Written Blog - We Arrived!

Hello friends and family! ~36 hours ago the “Exploring Historical, Political, and Geographic Landmarks in London, England A-Term” embarked on a voyage to immerse, and educate, ourselves in a community other than our own. Through this experience, we have a multitude of events planned, but in order to achieve these, we must first arrive in the amazing city of London!

Our plane ride to London was 8 hours long, and because we were traveling in the opposite direction of time (east), we lost a significant amount of time, and sleep. This contributed to an immense amount of jet-lag that we felt through our morning after arriving at the London Heathrow airport. In the end, we were able to regroup, pick up all our luggage, and arrive at our hotel. Although a lot of us lost track of time, and we are all currently very tired, we are all looking forward to our trip!

That being said, I and our group, are thoroughly missing our friend Asa, who was unable to make on the trip due to a last minute change. We will be thinking of you throughout the trip dude! Get well soon!
As today was a little bit different than most days, a written portion and pictures are included in one blog. For future blog posts, expect one written blog and one photo blog every day. These blogs should be published at the end of the day our time, which is 7:00-8:00 in London, or 2:00-3:00 in Houston time. Our first regularly scheduled blog posts should be coming out later today.

Hey Mom and Dad! Love you and miss you! :D :D

Here are some pictures, from the travel day, hope you enjoy:

  1. Hey Nathan, good to know that all arrived safely in London. Was that you snoozing/snoring in the subway? Get some well deserved sleep and rest. Also, rumor has it that Mr. Grisbee is a great chef. Learn as much as you can about the delicate art of cooking; you are going to need it in a few months. We dropped off our guests at the airport this morning. We miss you dude. Have an awesome time in London and watch out for the cars/busses/lorries while crossing the streets......they drive on the wrong side of the street !!!!

Final Reflection - Morgann

I have dreamed about going to London for so long. I have listened to my family members talk about what their life was like when they lived there. Mainly they talked about walking everywhere, patting down dresses for bombs, dreary weather, smoking, pubs, and being near other relatives. However, I never got to know what the city was actually like. I was shocked by how everything was so close together and how efficient the public transportation system was. When I got home I probably talked about the tube for a solid 30 minutes. I never really mastered the tube map but I did enjoy trying to learn it. Using the public transport was great because it allowed us to see the everyday commute. In the afternoons all the busses and tubes get very stuffed with people, imagine a sardine can, but double the amount of sardines in the can. We also walked a tone, members with fitbits told use that we often walked six to seven miles on average. I have never felt healthier than during the trip due to more...

Final Reflection - George

London Final Reflection I remember when this trip was announced, everyone wanted to be a part of it. I was surprised to discover I was one of the twelve people selected to go to London. The many following meeting and planning only furthered my excitement and anticipation. I couldn’t actually comprehend that I was going on an international school trip to London , one of the biggest, most diverse, and history rich cities in the world. Even now, sitting in my room on the day before we go back home, I still can’t fully comprehend the fact that I am currently here. The first 34 hours of this trip were absolutely mind-numbing, but not in the bad way. Stepping out onto the streets of London after an eight hour flight was honestly probably too much for my brain to process. The long string of events after landing each contributed to an aspect of this trip that I would eventually find to be running motifs: housekeeping & maintenance, group travel & transportation, and exploring ...

Final Reflection - Sierra

Having the opportunity to travel to London with the Post Oak School is one that I will never forget. Not only did learn a lot, but this trip has also changed the way I view history and traveling to a different city. This was also my first experience spending this much time in a completely different country with other people my age and my teachers. So, in addition to learning about landmarks and history in London, I learned social skills, responsibility, and the art of living with other people in a small space. I feel as though I have grown a lot from when the trip first started to now when it has ended. I now feel more confident in myself to be independent and I know I can take on responsibilities, this is all a result of the independence that was fostered in this trip and the responsibilities each one of us had to make this trip go smoothly. Before this trip became reality, there was a lot of work to be done, most of it done by Callista, Cassandra, and Morgann. They all did a grea...
